Psoriasis is caused by the body’s immune system going into overdrive to attack the skin.   The skin becomes red, with silvery patches, and the nails may be pitted.  Psoriasis is associated with a type of chronic arthritis called psoriatic arthritis (PsA).

  • About 30% of people with psoriasis develop PsA, appearing first between the ages of 30 and 50 in both men and women. The joint pain may even appear before the skin condition.
  • Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) causes chronic inflammation of the joints – usually the hips, knees, fingers and toes.
  • Like psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis symptoms flare and subside, vary from person to person, and even change locations in the same person over time – affecting a single joint on one side of the body or the same joint on both sides.
  • If psoriatic arthritis is not treated, the continuous inflammation can lead to joint damage.

While there are several treatment options available, not everyone’s psoriatic arthritis responds, there may be side effects, or the treatments stop working.  That is why better treatment options are needed for people with psoriatic arthritis.

Take the next step to see if you qualify for local research studies for people with psoriatic arthritis. But don’t delay — space is limited!

* In a research study, the participants may receive investigational study product or may receive an inactive substance, or placebo, depending on the study design. Participants receive study-related care from a doctor/research team for the duration of the study. For studies that offer compensation, reasonable payments will be made for participation. The length of the study may vary.
