High cholesterol, especially high levels of the “bad” or LDL cholesterol, is one of the risk factors for heart attack and stroke. Age 50+ for men and 55+ for women also increases your risk for heart disease. Other risk factors include:

  • being overweight with a wide waist measurement
  • diabetes
  • smoking
  • problems with your arteries
  • a family history of heart disease
  • family history of high cholesterol

Managing your LDL “bad” cholesterol is one way that researchers think will lower the risk for a future heart attack or stroke. They are evaluating a study medication that works along with statins to help lower risk. You may be eligible to participate.

Take the next step to see if you qualify for local research studies for people with high cholesterol or other risk factors for heart attack or stroke. But don’t delay — space is limited!

* In a research study, the participants may receive investigational study product or may receive an inactive substance, or placebo, depending on the study design. Participants receive study-related care from a doctor/research team for the duration of the study. For studies that offer compensation, reasonable payments will be made for participation. The length of the study may vary.
