COVID-19 update — we remain open.

For the safety of both staff and patients, we require that our research sites are COVID-19 SMART facilities. That means they use best practices to reduce virus exposure and are dedicated to ensuring they remain open and available for the research of investigational medications.

COVID-19 SMART steps we are taking to ensure safety include:

  • Greatly increased availability of video office visits
  • Ensuring social distancing measures are taken in all waiting areas
  • Continuing the practice of cleaning and disinfecting exams rooms thoroughly between every patient visit
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for all staff members at our health clinics

If you have a child that suffers from asthma, you may find it hard to “exhale” and just relax. Maybe they are taking asthma medication, yet still have difficulty breathing or suffer from attacks that quickly turn into medical emergencies. Once schools reopen and your child is exposed to more allergens and viruses, his/her attacks may increase, putting them at risk of missed school days and falling behind.

As you may know, signs and symptoms that a child’s asthma may not be well-controlled can include:

  • Wheezing or coughing (especially at night)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Tightness, pain or pressure in the chest

The good news is that local research studies are evaluating asthma medications, so if your child has asthma—especially asthma that’s not well-controlled–they may be eligible to enroll. These investigational medications are not available from your child’s regular doctor, but rest assured that they can continue to see their treating physician. In fact, you can think of the study doctors as additional asthma experts who will closely monitor your child’s health during the study.

Take the next step to see if they may qualify for local research studies for children with Asthma.  Don’t delay — space is limited!

* In a research study, the participants may receive investigational study product or may receive an inactive substance, or placebo, depending on the study design. Participants receive study-related care from a doctor/research team for the duration of the study. For studies that offer compensation, reasonable payments will be made for participation. The length of the study may vary.
