ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) is a common condition that affects many children. Symptoms of ADHD might include difficulty focusing or listening, trouble following directions or finishing tasks, or being easily distracted or hyperactive. Other children with ADHD might also have difficulty controlling their emotions. They may act out in verbal or physical ways.
This is called ADHD with impulsive aggression, or commonly referred to as “acting out”. Life at home and at school can be disrupted by angry behavior such as screaming, shouting, hitting, kicking, and throwing things. Many children with ADHD may be medicated for their symptoms, but still have trouble controlling their emotions and behavior.
Better treatment options are needed for kids who struggle with ADHD and angry behavior. Right now, doctors are looking for kids who have ADHD and angry behavior to take part in local research studies.
