Plaque Psoriasis (commonly referred to simply as Psoriasis) is a chronic, inflammatory, immune-mediated disease. It affects children and adults alike. In moderate to severe cases, Psoriasis is distinguished by raised, rough patches with silvery-white scales. These patches may be broken, flaky, and painful.
The intense itching and pain Psoriasis causes can interfere with every part of your child’s life. Though topical creams may work for some with mild or localized symptoms, treatment options are currently limited to injections for those with serious cases of the disease.
Injecting children with medicine can be daunting for parents and children alike. For kids who fear needles, the treatment may seem as bad as the disease. But right now, doctors who understand the physical and psychological impacts of Pediatric Psoriasis are conducting research studies to evaluate an oral study drug. Volunteers between the ages of 6 & 17 who can swallow a pill may be eligible to participate.
In 2014, the medication under investigation was approved globally for adults.
More treatments options for young kids and teens are needed. Only research will make that possible. Your child can make a difference.
